Wicked Lasers -The Core

The Wicked Lasers Core is one of the best built 5mw green laser pointers I’ve found. I’ve owned several ledlight-style pointers before and this things beats them hands-down.

Durability (4.5/5)
Again, while I would suggest against this, if you were to drop this laser on to the floor there is a decent probabiliy that it would still work. I’ve done this a few times with no ill-effects so far. The unit is solid and nothing, not even the batteries, rattle inside the case. The reason I am giving it a 4.5 rating is that any DPSS laser is more fragile than a diode-only design.
Style (5/5)
The Core looks cool. As I said on the front page, when I use this in meetings, it gets more attention than I do. It doesn’t look like any other laser pointer out there, especially because it has no clip on the end. I like that there is no clip on this laser. It keeps the design clean and simple.
Battery Life (5/5)
For a DPSS laser, this thing rocks. For using it at work, I never have to worry about running out of a charge. If you are using it for more fun purposed, it might not hurt to keep an extra set of AAA’s around. Battery life isn’t an issue for this laser.

Couldn’t agree more with this mini-review. I have one of these along with a dragon case and it’s awesome. Why spend $5 on a 5mW wannabe that’s unsafe (no IR filter) and with no power regulation, when you can spend $50 on a true 5mW with IR filter and power regulation (spartec!).
The unit looks really sleak, battereis last ages (for it’s intended use), and the green dot really does grab attention - even more so than the newer blue lasers IMO.
Sure, there are much, much more powerful lasers out there. However, like anything, you get what you pay for. A 200mW from eBay for a few notes is cheap for a reason - safety, and nowhere near its stated power. Get one from somewhere like Wicked Lasers, and you are guaranteed that power.
If you want a safe’ish green beam laser that is great for presentations and star pointing, this is it. If you want to burn stuff and pop baloons, first, seek help, but second, get a more powerful laser. Just don’t go waving it around like you can this one!
