My batteries came today! They need several hours to charge but I managed to take a few photos and make a short video. View my post for my thoughts on this great laser.

RGB Wicked Lasers

Before I begin, I wanted to say a quick note about the photographs: better ones are coming!

Color: Take a look at the photographs below. The color of this laser is simply amazing. It is a pure blue color that catches your attention. If your friends think your green Core laser is neat, they will be blown away by this. I’ve been active in this hobby for about two years and this is easily my favorite color (650nm is second)

Brightness: Like any battery powered laser, it is brightest with fresh batteries. With a new set in, this is simply impressive. The dot is clearly visible in any lighting condition. The beam is easily visible with a dimly illuminated room but can be seen in brighter conditions depending the viewer’s angle to the beam. Adding smoke would make this thing really stand out.

Battery Life: The batteries are 18650 Li-Ion batteries. They ship separate from the laser and come with a charger. Unfortunately, the first thing you need to do when you get them is charge them! It probably isn’t safe to ship fully charged batteries so I can’t hold this against Wicked Lasers. I haven’t had time to do a full drain test yet to see how long they last.

Beam Mode: The laser is Tem03 - but you really can’t tell. The beam is slightly elongated but it doesn’t really stand out. If you point it at a wall even just a few feet away, you wouldn’t be able to tell it wasn’t Tem00. I didn’t know what to make of this at first but after playing with the laser for a little bit, it really isn’t an issue at all. It acts just like the other lasers I have.

Water Proof: Apparently this is water proof. I have no plans to test this :)

Power Switch: I love the fact that this has a click-on, click-off switch (like a MagLight.) If you do any beam experiments you will appreciate this! Using zip ties to hold down the power button on lower end models gets old.

Photos: These are a few photos I took tonight. Both the Spyder batteries and my camera batteries died so there aren’t many. I did manage to capture a few along with a short video. Enjoy!

What’s Next: I have two major updates planned. In the next few days I plan to shoot some quality images of the laser in action. Second, my dichroic mirrors should be here in the next week or so. Once I have them, I am going to try to make a purple laser using my Pulsar and the Spyder. The beam diameter is similar so I expect some success. If that goes well, I will add in my Nexus or Core to try and create a white laser. Wish me luck!
